About us
Our Mission at Rolling Dream
Rolling Dream’s mission is to support the development and production of wheelchairs and mobility aids, as well as education for for people depending on these in developing countries.
Jannicke and Juan Carlos are currently working for Design without Borders (a program under Norsk Form, the foundation for design and architecture in Norway) with Transiciones as a partner, where our main goal as industrial designers is to be a part of knowledge transfer between us and Transiciones. Through that work we have discovered that Transciones is a good and reliable foundation, and that they need funding to continue their impressive work. Working with Transiciones for Design without Borders, has left us with a wish to help beyond our current professional commitments. That is why we, as private individuals, have started Rolling Dreams.
Rolling Dreams first goal is to fundraise for a production of a number of wheelchairs for children. The wheelchairs were developed in the collaboration between Design without borders and Transiciones. We are seeking funding to provide wheelchairs for children. Though the actual design is finished, the product and production line could benefit from extensive real life testing of the first 10 or 20 chairs. In order to do this, these chairs have to be funded. Rolling Dream wishes to contribute with funding for Transiciones, in order to support their work. Rolling Dream is a not-for-profit organization based in Kristiansand, Norway, and that serves both rural and urban areas in Guatemala.
History
People living with disabilities in developing countries have needs and problems that are very different from those living in urbanized, accessible areas. These design needs were being met by teams of dedicated people such as the technicians at the Transitions Foundation wheelchair workshop in Guatemala (http://www.transitionsfoundation.org) but most of these ideas were not taking off due to lack of funding and interest from charitable people and organizations.
These designs also came from people that are living with disabilities themselves, and that have proven to create brilliant things, even if they could not access formal education. Therefore, in 2012 a team of people consisting of both designers and technicians set off both to kick-start these great ideas and technical careers. Rolling Dream was born.
Current goals
The design team working at the Transitions Foundation workshop in Antigua Guatemala is in continued development of a wheelchair specially made for children with special needs, taking into account both their ergonomics/therapeutical needs and the family´s needs for a durable, rugged, economical product that fits the Guatemalan context. Please visit our current project page to learn more about the project we are supporting.
Rolling Dream´s short/midterm goal is to help Transiciones raise fundings for jigs and molds to improve the production line for this wheelchair, and also for manufacturing of a test-run of these wheelchairs that will be tested with children living in rural areas in Guatemala. The aim of this pilot program for Transiciones is to improve the quality, fit and durability of this design and to provide for the children the best possible product. please continue to this page to find out how to help us and the different ways that you can contribute to making these projects a reality.
Future goals
Rolling dream and its great partner organizations seek to continue to support work in the areas of wheelchair and mobility aids design and production, as well as to support the education and technical improvement of people living with disabilities in its deployment countries. Rolling Dream wants to provide scholarships and aid to the brilliant people who create and build things to help others.
We seek to pair people and organizations that provide aid to people, with those who can financially and logistically support them. We seek to play a connecting role in the global disabilities community.
